Woodland Creatures for Autumn Displays
September signals strolls through parks, leaves underfoot and a natural shift towards cosier days indoors. It’s also the perfect time to build an autumn display at home or school. This week we’re celebrating small, cheerful woodland knits that bring character to mantels, windowsills and noticeboards—quick projects you can finish in an evening and group together for a charming seasonal scene.
Our Pattern of the Week is the Caterpillar Knitting Pattern, with 20% off using code CATERPILLAR20 until Monday. Alongside it, we’ll look at the Butterfly and Stick Man patterns—three friendly designs that work beautifully together on a single shelf or in a box-frame display.
Pattern of the Week: Caterpillar (20% Off)
The Caterpillar Knitting Pattern is a quick, simple knit in DK yarn: build bright segments from your stash and vary lengths for tiny desk mascots or longer shelf critters. Perfect for classrooms, reading corners, or nature-themed displays. Use code CATERPILLAR20 at checkout for 20% off this week only.
Butterflies for Colour and Movement

The Butterfly Knitting Pattern adds instant cheer. Hang a trio in a window, pin one above a nature table or frame a single butterfly with a leaf or two for a simple piece of wall art. Butterflies are light, fast to make and an ideal way to use small leftover balls of yarn.
Stick Man—A Friendly Forest Figure

The Stick Man Knitting Pattern brings a playful woodland character to your scene. Position your Stick Man with a few knitted leaves on a shelf, or let him “guard” a small jar filled with conkers and acorns. His friendly silhouette pairs naturally with caterpillars and butterflies for a cohesive autumn arrangement.
Display Ideas
Creating a strong seasonal vignette is about how you group pieces as much as what you knit. A simple arrangement can look polished with a little planning.
- Think in threes: group a Caterpillar, one Butterfly and your Stick Man for balance and height variation.
- Add texture: mix knitted creatures with a wooden tray, small books and a stem of dried foliage.
- Frame it: arrange a Butterfly and a leaf in a shallow box frame to hang above the main display.
- Use levels: place the Caterpillar low, Stick Man mid-height and a Butterfly higher to lead the eye.
Care & Personalisation
All three patterns use DK yarn and are easy to customise. Try tonal greens for your Caterpillar, a duo of complementary shades for each Butterfly wing, and a warm neutral for Stick Man. For a personal touch, stitch initials discreetly on the reverse, or add scattered leaves to any display using the Leaves pattern from last week’s feature.
