Spring Knitting Starts Here: Eggs, Bunny Rabbits & Butterflies
By late February, winter can feel like it’s been hanging around a bit too long. The good news is: spring is already quietly sneaking in. The days are noticeably lighter, the first hints of colour start appearing outdoors, and suddenly your knitting basket feels like it wants something cheerier too.
This is also the perfect time to knit ahead. Easter always arrives faster than you expect, and the best seasonal knitting happens when you’ve got just enough time to enjoy it — rather than speed-knitting in a mild panic while muttering “why did I start this so late?” under your breath.
So this week we’re starting a gentle spring theme with three bright, feel-good projects that are made for seasonal decorating and gifting: knitted eggs, a sweet bunny rabbit, and cheerful butterflies.
Our Pattern of the Week is the Egg Knitting Pattern PDF Download, with 20% off using code EGG20 until Monday. We’re also featuring the Knitted Bunny Rabbit and the Butterfly patterns for a proper springtime trio.
Pattern of the Week: Knitted Eggs

Knitted eggs are one of those projects that are small, satisfying, and dangerously more-ish. You make one… then you think, “That was quick, I’ll do another.” Then suddenly you’ve got a full egg box of knitted eggs and you’re wondering whether you should start hiding them around the house for dramatic effect.
They’re perfect for:
- Spring décor (without needing a full redecorating mission)
- Easter baskets and table displays
- Small handmade gifts for children, friends, teachers or neighbours
- Using up leftover yarn in bright, cheerful colours
If you enjoy colour play, knitted eggs are brilliant. You can go classic pastels, bright rainbow tones, or even a “posh neutral egg” theme if you’re feeling fancy. They also work beautifully in sets, which makes them ideal for gifting — a little bundle of three or six looks really thoughtful, even if you secretly know they were a joy to knit.

Knitted Bunny Rabbit: A Proper Spring Classic
If eggs are the quick spring makes, the bunny rabbit is the heart-melter. This is the sort of project that becomes someone’s favourite, gets carried around, and is treated like a very important member of the household. (Bunnies have that effect.)
The Knitted Bunny Rabbit Pattern gives you options too — you can keep it simple, or add extra details depending on who you’re knitting for. It’s a lovely project to start now, because it’s the kind of make that’s most enjoyable when you’re not rushing it.
If you’re doing a spring display at home, a bunny next to a basket or a little cluster of knitted eggs looks instantly seasonal. If you’re gifting, a bunny paired with a few eggs is a really sweet handmade set that feels special and personal.
Butterflies: The “Spring Has Arrived” Knit

Butterflies are the ultimate spring symbol. They’re cheerful, colourful, and they bring instant “new season” energy — even if it’s still cold outside and you’re still wearing the same jumper you’ve worn since October.
The Butterfly Knitting Pattern is brilliant for using up small yarn amounts, experimenting with colour combinations, and making quick, uplifting decorations. Butterflies look lovely:
- as spring garlands (strung along a mantel, shelf, or window)
- on gift wrap as a reusable topper
- as colourful décor in children’s rooms
- as a little “thinking of you” surprise in a card
If you’d like a simple spring project that feels light and happy, butterflies are hard to beat. They also pair beautifully with knitted eggs — you can create an Easter-themed display that’s colourful, handmade, and lasts year after year.
Easy Spring Display Ideas (No Big Effort Required)
If you like the idea of spring knitting but don’t want to create more “stuff” that needs storing, here are a few simple ways to use these makes around the home:
- Egg box display: pop your knitted eggs in a real egg box (like the photo) and set it on a shelf or table.
- Mini spring corner: bunny + a few eggs + a couple of butterflies on a shelf instantly looks seasonal.
- Gift bundle: knit 3 eggs and a butterfly as a quick handmade present set.
- Reusable gift toppers: tie a butterfly or small egg onto wrapping, then keep it as part of the gift.
