World Book Day Knitting…

It can get a bit competitive but many people love to have this opportunity to have unique handmade costumes for their children on World Book Day. And of course, proudly showcase their skills and creations on social media! A bit of knitting is perfect to sew onto a plain old top to turn it into something that fits perfectly with the desired costume. Many of the knitting patterns on this website may be used and adapted in this way, such as adding a knitted rainbow (if anybody likes Care Bears these days!) or a knitted rocket.

Accessories!

To knit a whole costume would be a huge amount of knitting and time, and so even if you’ve nipped down to the shop last minute to grab the last costume off the shelf, there are still plenty of knitted options you can make to accessorise it. For example, for many-a-witch (Meg and Mog, Winnie the Witch, Room on a Broom etc…) a knitted bat or knitted spider might fit in perfectly. Alternatively, a princess costume may be finished nicely with some little knitted bows for the hair or some added flowers such as the knitted poppy. The knitted daisy would work very well with that Upsy Daisy Costume.

My Shame…

I hate to admit it but personally I haven’t knitted anything for my children for world book day. I do say it every year – that I will put a bit more effort in next time and be a bit more creative, but unfortunately Charlie (7) will be wearing his batman costume that he has worn for the past two World Book days (yes, it was originally bought ‘with room to grow’, then last year it was just about right and this year is slightly too small but he can get that last wear out of it). Caitlin (the 10year-old) is wearing ‘normal clothes’ as most of the books she reads about are of ‘kind of normal people’. And Ellie most likely will be wearing Caitlin’s very old hand-me-down princess dress. At least the bow headband works well as a top up!

Meanwhile the knitted rainbow is almost finished and I hope to have it up on the site within the next week!
